Hangnails are basically small bits of skin that hang off the sides or base of the nail. They are usually caused by dryness, exposure to harsh chemicals or bad manicures.
For a DIY remedy, try using yogurt which has pro-biotics with anti-inflammatory properties to help with painful and inflamed hangnails. Apply a thin layer of yogurt to the affected areas, let it sit for a few hours then rinse and repeat until skin mends.
